Position Overview

The Junior High Cheer Coach is responsible for leading and supervising the 7th and 8th grade cheerleading program throughout the winter season. The coach will provide a positive, safe, and structured environment that promotes school spirit, teamwork, sportsmanship, skill development, and appropriate representation of the school and athletic department.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and conduct regular practices throughout the season and maintain consistent communication with athletes and parents.
• Maintain appropriate supervision of athletes at all practices, games, and team activities.
• Teach and review cheers, chants, jumps, motions, dances, and age-appropriate stunting skills.
• Ensure all activities and skills are performed in accordance with current school, conference, IHSAA/NFHS, and applicable cheer safety guidelines.
• Attend and supervise cheerleaders at all home junior high girls’ and boys’ basketball games during the season.

• Promote positive school spirit and good sportsmanship while ensuring cheerleaders represent the school appropriately.
• Coordinate with athletic administration regarding game schedules, schedule changes, cancellations, and special events.

• Establish and communicate clear expectations regarding attendance, behavior, effort, sportsmanship, uniforms, and team responsibilities.
• Promote an inclusive team environment emphasizing respect, teamwork, responsibility, and positive relationships.
• Address athlete or parent concerns professionally and involve athletic administration when appropriate.

• Assist with the distribution, collection, organization, and inventory of school-issued uniforms, poms, and other cheer equipment.
